Falinge Park High School – Harvest Donation

25th November 2017

Many thanks to all the young people and families who contributed to the harvest food challenge that was organised by students from the Archbishop of York Young Leaders group in school.  These students created an assembly, presented their ideas to all students and promoted the foodbank challenge amongst their peers and in their community groups.

The food has now been donated to Rochdale Foodbank.  One student said they particularly wanted to help because the AYYLA students had told them stories of real life people like Babs and Richard who feel that without the support of the foodbank ‘they wouldn’t be here today’, even though they never expected to need it.

Wendy Fell, schools co-ordinator at Rochdale Foodbank said ‘since Rochdale Foodbank opened in November 2012, there has been no lessening in demand for the service we provide.  The food donated by Falinge Park High School as a result of this collection totalled 422.11kg, giving a fantastic boost to our stocks in what is expected to be a busy run up to Christmas.’

We would particularly like to thank the Morrison’s store at Heywood for donating the large shopping bags which helped us collect the donations and Mr Rhodes for organising the logistic of getting our harvest collections to the Rochdale Foodbank.

If students are interested in joining the Archbishop of York Young Leaders group, a group of students working towards a nationally accredited award to recognise service to our community and ‘being the change they want to see’ they should see Miss Clark for more details.

Many thanks to Falinge pupils for their fantastic support !
