What’s in a Food Parcel?

We provide three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food

The Trussell Trust has worked with nutritionists to ensure food parcels contains sufficient nutrition for at least three days worth of healthy, balanced meals for individuals and families.

A typical food parcel includes:

  • Breakfast cereals
  • Soup
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Pasta sauce
  • Tinned beans
  • Tinned meat
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Tinned fruit
  • Tea or coffee
  • Sugar
  • Biscuits
  • Snacks

Dietary requirements

Our foodbank can usually adapt your food parcel to meet your dietary needs, for example, gluten free, halal or vegetarian. When you arrive at the foodbank centre, a volunteer will chat to you about an special dietary requirements you may have.

Additional items

Most days we have additional items: vegetables, fruit, bread etc. These have been donated by local businesses because they have a use-by date of the same day. We encourage clients to help themselves to these in addition to the food parcel they receive from us.

We cannot retain these items until the following day as our guidelines do not allow for out of date food to be given to clients – obviously these additional items are taken on a first come first served basis.

We may on occasion have access to toiletries and/or sanitary items. These items will not always be available so please talk to our volunteers about additional items that we may be able to supply you with.
